Balanced Lug

The Balanced Lug sail has the advantage of hoisting a lot of sail area on a fairly short mast. Example Sail - Start with the Boom: If the Boom = 9ft, then the Yard = 9ft. Sail Area = .81(Boom squared) = .81(81) = 65.61 sqft Sail Height = 1.245 * Boom = 1.245 * 9 = 11.2ft (your mast should equal your sail height plus the room you want under the boom)
