Sailing a small boat can be as complicated, or as simple as you want it to be.

Let's start with simple.

The Safety Message: Wear a flotation vest at all times. Even if the water is waist deep, sailing boats are not always under control, and if you hit your head on something, the jacket will make it easier for your relatives to find your body.

Sailing. Sit on the high side, steer where you want to go, and pull on the string (main sheet). That's all there is to it!

Well there's a little more, like for instance, try to keep the sails at about 45° to the direction of the wind for starters, you might need a little flag at the top of the mast to help you with this. After a few minutes you'll develop a feel for what is going on, and you'll instinctively learn when to tighten the sail and when to let it off.

Tip: if the wind is tipping the boat and you think it's going to capsize, you've either got the sail pulled on too tight, or you're sitting on the wrong side of the boat.

Have Fun! :-)
